Precautions to ensure protection against the third wave of COVID

COVID cases may have reduced but surely it’s not over yet. The entire world has been reeling under the first and second waves of the deadly corona virus and needless to say, the second wave was nothing less than brutal.

A majority of the people infected with COVID faced shortage of hospital beds as well as oxygen supply and were struggling for life. Unfortunately, we suffered the loss of so many of our loved ones as they succumbed to the disease. The suffering was a difficult one as it was not easy to see neither our loved ones nor ourselves battle the virus.

The trial was a long one as the second wave continued to torment us each day but the suffering has reduced like the light at the end of a tunnel. The cases started to drop day by day and COVID-related deaths were also staggering. There came a time that people could say that the brutal second wave was over. The news people were craving for was finally announced, and with relaxations all over, people started leaving their homes and getting back to some semblance of normalcy.

But the question is – Is COVID really over?

The world is still not free from the pandemic as the risk may not be the same now but it still looms large and scientists all over are predicting how a third wave can make a sweeping entry into our lives!

There is already a variant of the novel corona virus that is less resistant to the vaccines and is highly transmissible making an arrival and we have started reporting cases about it too in different parts of the world. With travel bans being lifted and our attempts to return to some semblance of normalcy, it won’t be wrong to say that the third wave of COVID will strike the rest of the world soon.

But by taking some precautions, we can keep the risk at bay:

  • Correctly wearing a good mask.
  • Washing our hands regularly.
  • Maintaining social distance at all public places.
  • Avoiding unnecessary travel to different cities.
  • Not leaving our home often and doing it only when necessary.
  • Being properly covered with a mask or a double mask while talking to the infected patient.
  • Wearing a face shield, in addition, to a mask to ensure higher safety standards.
  • Eating healthy, nutritious and immunity-boosting food.
  • Taking proper medications as per doctor’s advice for anything rather than self-administering.
  • Maintaining a safe distance from anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Not touching our eyes, mouth or nose unnecessarily or often.
  • Not taking fever, cough or any symptom lightly and immediately consulting a doctor or quarantining of self.
  • Avoid touching door handles and railings. Use elbows to open doors wherever possible.
  • Making sure to keep our rooms and houses well ventilated.
  • Monitoring our oxygen levels.

Our health is in our hands. Together, we can ensure that the spread can be stopped and we can win over the deadly virus by taking these precautions seriously and following all the COVID-related protocols as put in place by the government and health organizations. If we will care for ourselves, we will be able to protect ourselves and our loved ones. We all have witnessed that health indeed is the true wealth in the last one and a half years. Materialistic things are not as important as good health. Therefore, by following these simple measures, we can entail maximum protection and precautions against the imminent third wave and defeat the COVID virus!
